My complete E1 hiking gear list
This is my complete and unfortunately not so lightweight E1 hiking gear list for my hike of the Scandinavian section of the first of Europe’s long-distance trails. I made some changes to the gear I was carrying on the PCT in 2016 as I definitely expect more rain and colder weather. In total all of the gear I am carrying weighs around 9 kg. This includes already the gas canister for my stove.
The weight given behind each item is in grams.

Sounds like a lot….?
…yes, it does! If I would have a bigger budget I would love to replace my backpack, tent, rainpants, stove and possibly some other stuff with more lightweight versions already available on the market. Unfortunately I do not have the money to do that.
On the other hand nearly every item in this list has proven itself during multiple hikes – either on the PCT, while crossing the European Alps or both! And there’s still the option to drop or replace items of my hiking gear as I go.
What gear will you take on your next hiking trip?
Hopefully my E1 hiking gear list is helpful to you and makes it a little easier to decide for you what to bring.
Are you planning a hike on the E1 too? Do you bring anything different? Did I miss anything?
