Day 36: The call of town

 We got up this morning and faced the last 10+ miles day before we got into the town of Tehachapi.
 Our plan was to hike to the Highway and cut 8 miles of the following section.
 The plan was hard to keep. We arrived at willow Springs Road around noon and met a bunch of other hikers and an older couple offering a ride into town.
 We had to be strong. We sat down in the Burning sun and trank some water from the cache. We were also offered a beer from fellow hikers who had rented a car.
 For lunch we had some bread offered from other hikers who didn’t want to Carry it as well as chicken Soup Navigator carried with him just in case. It was just in case because we were both running out of food.
 After an extended lunchbreak and seeing everyone else leave into town, we went ahead for another four miles in the heat of the afternoon.
 It was only a taste of what’s yet to come.
 
 There are two main topics discussed on trail. The first one is the dry section from Tehachapi to Walker Pass sporting a 42 miles stretch without any reliable watersource and the second one is about a full Kennedy Meadows and hikers hiking back from there because of rising prices.
 
 It lies ahead so we will see when we get there. Navigator and I are going to plan the next section once we reached Tehachapi.
 For toninght it’s dreaming about the comforts of town: unlimited food, a shower, more food, a bathtub, chips and fresh fruits and Navigator is dreaming about watching Games of Thrones….
 
 
 Wir wachten morgens auf und sahen dem letzten 10+ Meilen Tag vor unserem Townstopp in Tehachapi entgegen.
 Wir wollten die erste Möglichkeit zum Trampen überspringen und weitere 8 Meilen zu Highway 58 laufen und so den nächsten Abschnitt verkleinern.
 Der Plan war schwer einzuhalten. Wir erreichten Willow Springs Road um die Mittagszeit, wo wir einige andere Hiker trafen und ein älteres Pärchen, das uns anbot mit in die Stadt zu fahren.
 Wir mussten stark sein. Und so saßen wir in der glühenden Mittagssonne und tranken Wasser aus der Cache (trailangels deponierten Wasser an der Straße) und bekamen sogar ein Bier von anderen Hikern angeboten, die ein Auto gemietet hatten.
 Zum Mittagessen hatten wir Brot von Hikern, die aus der Stadt zurückkamen und es nicht tragen wollten. Außerdem Hühnersuppe die Navigator nur für den Fall dabei hatte.
 Es war “nur für den Fall”, denn wir hatten beide kaum noch essen.
 Nach einer ausgedehnten Mittagspause machten wir uns auf den Weg um weitere vier Meilen zu wandern.
 Es war ein Vorgeschmack auf das was noch kommen sollte…
 
 Es gibt aktuell zwei Hauptthemen unter den Hikern auf dem PCT. Zum einen eine 42-Meilen-Strecke nach Tehachapi ohne Wasser und zum anderen die Situation in Kennedy Meadows. Kennedy Meadows ist das Tor zur Sierra Nevada und viele Hiker scheinen dort aktuell auf bessere Bedingungen und weniger Schnee zu warten.
 
 Gerüchte… Wir werden sehen sobald wir da sind.
 Für heute Nacht bleiben und die Träume vom komfortablen Stadtleben: Essen ohne Ende, Duschen, noch mehr Essen, Chips, frische Früchte…
 Und Navigator träumt davon Games of Thrones zu sehen…
